But what causes the draught?
Cold draughts are caused by “Coanda effect”. This is when cold air tends to stick to the ceiling for a short period of time – therefore allowing the cold air to mix with surrounding air before moving further down.

Unfortunately it is not all that easy in practice. The presence of barriers such as ceiling beams or another air conditioning unit located opposite the first one will cause a disruption of air flow and will cause the cold air to sink immediately, resulting in a cold draught.
